About Dr. Spinosa

Dr. Daniel Spinosa is a fellow for the University of Colorado Division of Gynecologic Oncology. Born and raised in San Diego, he then attended Stanford University for his undergraduate education where he majored in Economics. Dr. Spinosa used the economics degree to pursue a career on Wall Street before deciding that his truer calling was in medicine. Dr. Spinosa then attended medical school at the University of California, San Diego before heading to Duke University for his residency in obstetrics and gynecology.

During both medical school and residency Dr. Spinosa gravitated towards oncology patients, and gynecologic oncology patients in particular, due to their courage, kindness, and often transcendent sense of purpose. The opportunity to participate in cancer care as a surgeon and a medical doctor is unique to gynecologic oncology and further attracted him to the field.

Dr. Spinosa’s academic interests include clinical trials, somatic tumor characterization and targeted therapies, applications of cell free DNA in cancer care, and quality improvement.

Outside of the hospital Dr. Spinosa enjoys playing and watching basketball, mountain sports, motorcycle riding, and reading. He is supported by his wife Katie, their dog Rosa and cat Buddha, and a large, loving extended family.
