CU Gynecologic Oncology Division Chief, Saketh Guntupalli, MD, and fellow, Lindsay Wheeler, MD, recently published a study with CU Family Planning faculty that looks at the relationship between IUD use and the risk of ovarian cancer. The study, published in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Journal, found that substantially lower incidences of ovarian cancer was associated with ever IUD use, as compared among women who never used IUDs. The reduced cancer risk was between 15 to 32%.
