Dr. Arruda explains that PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) is a serious gynecologic condition that affects between one and 10 to 20 women in the U.S. and can cause missed or irregular periods. She details the various symptoms that can occur with PCOS including acne, thinning hair, increased hair on the back, chest or face, obesity and type 2 diabetes.
